First Hospital Trip

My poor little Hyrum.  By the time he was 7 months old he had had 5 ear infections.  It seemed like the fluid never went away and just bred a new infection.  No fun.  He did not like ear infections, and I did not like ear infections.  So, finally we met with Dr. Hill, an ENT.  We scheduled surgery for him to get tubes in his ears.

June 6, 2011 was the first time either of my kids has been to the hospital since they were born.  Luckily, it was for something fairly small (especially compared to some of the other kids we saw in the waiting room).  Any surgery is a big deal when it is your child, but we were blessed that it was short (it only took about 20 minutes) and with no complications (that we know of).

Here we are in the waiting room before surgery:

He's very cute in his little patient outfit, but we still hope he doesn't need another one.
The hardest part was that he couldn't eat or drink anything in the morning.  So he was pretty cranky when we were waiting.

We're still trying to figure out if the surgery was successful.  He still pulls at his ears a lot.  We have to go back for his post-operative appointment soon, so we'll see where we're at then.

  1. Oh sweet little Hyrum!! He looks incredibly adorable in his little hospital gown! Taking your kids to the hospital is no fun! I've had my fair share dealing with ear infections too but we never did tubes. Our doctor was always confident that they didn't need them. I was always worried about the "nothing to eat or drink" as well- that always makes for one grumpy kid. I hope that they solve his problems and that he has no more complications with his ears!!
